Biography

Gregori Vázquez was born in Barcelona, Spain, in 1961. He received the M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Telecommunications Engineering from the Technical University of Catalonia (UPC), Barcelona, in 1984 and 1988, respectively and a MBA by ESADE, Barcelona in 1993.

 

Since February 2000, he is a Full Professor at the Department of Signal Theory and Communications, Technical University of Catalonia (UPC), Barcelona. His general interests are Statistical Signal Processing and Digital Communications. He has been involved in research projects in mobile, satellite and wireless communications of the European Commission, of the European Space Agency and for private companies.

 

He is a recipient of the 2003 Best Paper (Senior) Award of the IEEE Signal Processing Society.

 

He was serving as the Program Director of the Research Program on Communications of the Education and Science Ministry (former Science and Technology Ministry) of Spain, in the period 2004-2006. Since January 2007, he is serving in the "Information and Communication Technologies" Committee (ICTC) of the VII Framework Program of the European Union.

 

He was Associate Editor of the IEEE Transaction on Signal Processing (1999-2005), Member of the Editorial Board of the IEEE Signal Processing Magazine (2002-2006) and Member of the Signal Processing for Communications (SPCOM) Technical Committee of the IEEE Signal Processing Society (2002-2006), as well.

 

He is a Senior Member of the IEEE.
