General SATURN project
The Saturn project starts as a study of the possibilities of the use of smart antennas in a broadband
communication network, mainly UMTS networks. Different workgroups were created to study the different topics. More information

UPC lines of research
UPC has been involved mainly in two workgroups: 3 and 6.
Inside the workgroup 3, different MIMO transmitting techniques were studied. There is an study of performance of these techniques
using real data.
The Workgroup 6 focused its study in the localization techniques. There is a deep investigation of different techniques that
are aviable when using antenna arrays. Also a SIMO testbed has been developed, and used to study the performance of
these location techniques in a real scenario.
