Aim of the project

General SATURN project

The Saturn project starts as a study of the possibilities of the use of smart antennas in a broadband communication network, mainly UMTS networks. Different workgroups were created to study the different topics. More information about the whole project can be found at saturn home page.

UPC lines of research

UPC has been involved mainly in two workgroups: 3 and 6.

Inside the workgroup 3, different MIMO transmitting techniques were studied. There is an study of performance of these techniques using real data.

The Workgroup 6 focused its study in the localization techniques. There is a deep investigation of different techniques that are aviable when using antenna arrays. Also a SIMO testbed has been developed, and used to study the performance of these location techniques in a real scenario.
